Vacation 2017 Day 6- Finger Lakes Region- Lake Keuka

Our  first morning, during our delicious breakfast we learned of a lovely place called The Windmill It’s a giant arts and crafts flea market. Click the link above to learn more. It has so many vendors from Woodworking Craftsmen to Amish Baked goods.

We got hostess gift for Eric’s cousin from a basket maker who makes really sturdy well made baskets. (since she was hosting us in Maine in a couple of days) and got some local NY State Maple syrup. There was even a large booth that had old patterns of Corelle, Corningware and Tupperware. It was fun to see all the old Tupperware that my mom used to have in her kitchen. It was like stepping into a museum.

We spent a good part of the morning there and then headed back to the lake area and stopped at Rooster Hill Winery. This was a wonderful Winery and we did our first tasting in the finger lakes for $5 each. The wines were delicious (Riesling is king in The Finger Lakes) This was the first winery that let us keep our glasses.

We were working our way to Bully Hill Vineyards because they have a fantastic cafe apparently so we were going to go for a late lunch. But first, a recommended winery MacGregor was on our way so we stopped there. We heard good things about that winery. This was our view from the table where we took our tasting. They gave a snack plate for pairing with their wine tastings. It was very good yet expensive wines. Up to $70 for the Black Russian Red 36 month Reserve. Hubby loved this one, of course. Alas, we didn’t get it.

We moved on and headed toward Bully Hill. We did lunch first in the cafe. The Cafe had a gorgeous view of the lake.  They say it’s the best view of any winery on Lake Keuka. I had the Basil and Almond chicken salad which came with a freshly baked fruit croissant. They were both excellent. Eric had The Pig Pen which he loved. I highly recommend this cafe if you are in the area. We did the wine tasting at Bully Hill after lunch. It was highly entertaining and we did end up getting a bottle of Sweet Walter Rose. Otherwise the wine was really unremarkable.

We tried to get Dr Franks but they just closed tastings at we pulled up. So just took some pictures of the view.Eric did buy a bottle from the gift shop for that evening.

I was pretty wined out anyway at that point but Eric wanted to checkout a Brewery called Steuben so we went there. He got a flight and I drank water. We listened to music, played Cornhole and had a nice time there.

For dinner we had some wine, Capricola, and two types of cheese for dinner on the front porch of our B&B. Then we sat outside and red our books for a short time. We saw two Amish Mennonite Buggies race by our B&B during this time which was fun to see.   There were so many Amish farms up there.
