Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh Will Discontinue Public Engagements

Prince Phillip, 95, the longest-serving Queen consort in British history, Prince Philip, who turns 96 next month  has announced that he will step down from his public engagements this fall.  Reports say that the Queen is onboard with his decision.

He will continue heading numerous charitable organizations but will not play an active role attending engagements come this fall.  Prince Philip will attend previously scheduled engagements between now and August, both individually and accompanying The Queen.

The Prince joked that “he can’t stand up much”

The Prince has had many health problems in the last few years.   Philip underwent “an exploratory operation following abdominal investigations” in 2013.  He was also hospitalized for a bladder infection during the queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations the year before, and spent Christmas 2011 in hospital where he underwent an operation to clear a blocked heart artery after suffering chest pains.

I imagine this means that William, the Duke of Cambridge and Charles Prince of Wales will be taking on more public engagements in the place of Phillip more and more.
