Nursing and Hydration

No one ever told me that I would not be able to keep myself adequately hydrated as a nurse.  During my practicum shifts I have found my self with signs of dehydration- Thirst, dry mouth, dry skin, tiredness, sunken eyes (or is this from nursing school and getting up at 4am?)  I have been so busy as practicum that I rarely have time to get a drink.  I am not used to this because I am a huge water drinker.  I keep a big cup of water in the lounge but getting to it is frequently a challenge for me and my preceptor.  No food or drink at the nurses station has become the norm and apparently a Joint commission mandate in line with OSHA rules.

So my practicum yesterday was great.  Busy but great.  I feel like I”m going much better than when I started and my charting has improved with those little tips from my preceptor.  I am very pleased about that.

I have an exam tomorrow.  After tomorrow only: 3 more exams, one case study, one paper and 26 days until Pinning!  Last day of school work April 29th!!
