I was in the path of Milton. I did evacuate my house and sadly i had to leave my chickens behind but i set them up in the garage in an enclosure and went inland with my dogs. I came back to my house this morning and remarkably I still had power. ON my way from where i was to my house there were trees down, power lines down, stop lights hanging off dangling wires, and some that were re- aimed so to speak. Lots of lights were out.
My house came through just fine. I was fearful that I wouldn’t have a home with a roof when I got back. I am thankful that I did. The chickens did just fine in the garage too. My chicken coop was damaged and it happened to be built over the root of a tree so the ground is in upheaval inside the run too. My pool fence is toast and my pool is full of debris. Plywood, tree limbs etc. The fence will need to be replaced which is fine because the gates on either side of the pool didn’t work very well. It never locked appropriately and i haven’t seen a key for that in years. The pool fence was more than 10 years old anyway. I’m surprised it lasted that long. The main thing is the house and it did really well. Guess they built them good in 1982. I am relieved that the storm is over.
There is supposedly, another storm called Nadine that will take the same path as Helene did. Seems like this is our year to get our assess handed to us. and Leslie is also hanging out between Africa and Florida.
