Looks like my schedule is pretty much set in stone now, at least for the semester. Now that I have gone PRN at my job (RT), well I officially go PRN on October 9) my schedule is pretty much set.
Monday: off from work – pre clinical patient research takes up much of the day. We have to choose a patient. Not only a trip to the hospital and trying to wade through the jungle of a hospital charting system (sometimes I feel it might be easier with a machete.); but also hours of research and writing of pathophysiology, care plans, medical treatment, surgical treatment (always have to delve more into the procedure because there is always a post surgical not which describes in detail, the surgery that was done on that patient,) labs, imaging and the like. 4-5 hours work.
– also on Monday, a post or two for my actual class on the discussion board, learning questions, etc.
Tuesday: clinical day. We are there from 6:20- 6:30 pm A typical clinical day consists of :
0620-0630 – check on your patient. Last patient I checked on was asleep until I opened the door.
0630-0800 – Pre conference- report on chosen patient to the instructor who then decides who is passing meds and who is not. (there is only time for so many in the day for the instructor to be there to witness passing of meds, and hanging of piggy backs, etc. Turn in care plans and pathophysiology paper.
0800-0900– head to toe assessment, checking am labs and imaging, vitals, pain assessment, charting of assessment.
0900-1200 – AM care, med passing/hanging, baths, bed making, clean up room if needed, lunch time insulin. (if needed).
1300-1400 – LUNCH!!
1400-1600 PM care, meds if necessary.
1600-1630 – afternoon break. (usually shortened but for the most part we have a pretty long break)
1630-1830 – Post conference, presentations, our narrative of the day, skills we accomplished and education we provided to the patients, and our goals for next week. Present any topics the instructor wants us to present. (ie my presentation of Beta Blockers.)
1830 – Go HOME!!
Wenesday – I work at my RT job from 0630-1900.
Thursday/Friday – mostly taken up by school work. Maybe a trip to the gym if I’m lucky and the work load is not too much. (a trip to the gym is like 3 hrs for me including driving time, work out time and shower time)
Satuday/ Sunday- I work Every other weekend and I’m off every other weekend. Maybe I’ll have a little fun, maybe I’ll have a lot of fun, but it’s mostly working on stuff for school (sometimes even at work)
Nursing school is no joke people!
