If you are like me your phone is loaded with favorite podcasts which you are listening to while driving or cleaning or getting to sleep (with the timer feature) Sometimes I think I have too many to be able to listen to. In that case I listen by priority. Meaning which podcasts I enjoy the most.
I am mostly a horror podcast listener, a movie and TV show podcast listener (although none of the TV podcasts are favorites, honestly.) But I also love True Crime Podcasts and Misc podcasts.
My favorite Podcasts for 2018
Stuck in the 80’s
This is my favorite podcast of all times and the first one I started listening to when I got my first iphone. When I started listening there was already a 3 -4 year back catalog to catch up on.
This podcast was started by a man named Steve Spears who at the time was a an Entertainment Editor at what was then The St Petersberg Times (now the Tampa Bay Times) He was of college age at the University of Florida in the mid 80’s and is a few years older than me. He started this podcast because he just knew that there were other people just like me who had nostalgia for the decade of the 80’s. He was right and they just posted their 501 episode. The podcast has changed over the years but it only gets better.
Originally the podcast was hosted by Steve and Sean Daly both of Tamps/ St Petersberg. They had supporting hosts Cathy Wos and Gina Vivinetto. It featured talk about movies and music of the 80’s. A few years ago Steve was joined by Brad Williams as co- host when Sean Daly left the cast. They are sometimes joined by “Jen with One N”. They talk music, TV and movies of the 80’s and updates on those acts and what they are up to. They even have interviews with the stars and even the original MTV VJ’s! They have fun little segments like PPTMN (Please Please tell me now) and “What’s your 80’s obsession”, Mystery movie clip, mystery TV theme and more. So fun. You can find them on Your Itunes podcast app under Stuck in the 80’s. Find them on ON FACEBOOK And It also has a at SIT80s.com
This Is my favorite horror podcast. This is produced and stars two Canadian Academics Andrea Subissati and Alexandria West. Andrea is is a sociologist and writer on horror and cultural studies. She is also executive editor of Rue Morgue Magazine Alex is a writer and has published books on horror such as The 1990’s Teen Horror Cycle Final Girls and the New Hollywood Formula and Films of the New French Extremity: Visceral Horror and National Identity. Her work has also appeared in Rue Morgue Magazine and other publications. She maintains the social media for the podcast and blog.
This podcast exams well known and little known horror films and discusses the films merits and social implications of those films. They frequently will give history of the film, directors, writers or even the subject matter as well. This is a monthly podcast I really look forward to each month.
Another Favorite of mine is Real Crime Profile. This podcast Start Jim Clemente, Former FBI profiler and current writer on the TV show Criminal Minds and Laura Richards, criminal behavioral analyst, former New Scotland Yard) and Lisa Zambetti (Casting director for CBS’ Criminal Minds and founder of Pallidan national victim advocacy program also in the UK. They talk about all kinds of True Crime cases from Jon Bennet Ramsey to little known but interesting cases of true crime. They have talked about Making of a Murder and the Keepers in depth (they can both be seen on Netflix) This is a really interesting podcast and I recommend it if you too are a fan of true crime.
On Heir
On Heir is a fun podcast by Omid Scobie and Emily Andrews two British royal experts who have frequent contact with the royal family tours and cover them a lot.
Honorable mentions
Sometimes Dead is Better – a newer horror podcast which I like.
Each episode Chris and Christin do a deep dive into one of their favorite horror movies. Chris brings his movie theories and Christin connects a true crime.
Dirty John— This one is so good. It’s a true crime podcast.
Debra Newell is a successful interior designer. She meets John Meehan, a handsome man who seems to check all the boxes: attentive, available, just back from a year in Iraq with Doctors Without Borders. But her family doesn’t like John, and they get entangled in an increasingly complex web of love, deception, forgiveness, denial, and ultimately, survival. Reported and hosted by Christopher Goffard from the L.A. Times. They recently made a TV miniseries on Bravo about this story staring Connie Britton and Eric Bana.
