It’s back to school time. We had our orientation today for advanced adult health. We also had our dosage exam which I got an 88. An 88 is of course, not passing. I made a stupid mistake and added a zero in an equation! Another I didn’t add the time factor! Stupid stupid mistakes! So now I will have to retake next week to get the required 92%.
The clinicals have been irreversibly moved to Mondays. Thankfully we only have 5 clinical days and one of them is partially orientation. I am feeling much better about the whole situation. I have worked it out with my employer.
Today we did our standard discuss the calendar, discuss the syllabus, discussion board posts etc. we also chose our preferences for practicum. I chose a cardiac surgical floor, then peds, then a renal medical floor. Hopefully I will get one of those.
After lunch, we did some concept mapping activities. (I don’t know that I am a visual learner) and handoff report exercises in two groups. The last activity was regarding ABG interpretation and vents. (both of which I know a little something about being and RT). They were explaining ABG’s in a way that just confused me. So I will continue to look at ABGs as I have for the last 11 years, thank you very much. They rolled out a Bear 3 ventilator which is one of the vents I came up using in Respiratory school. It was so funny to see it and all it’s knobs. Vents are much more user friendly although some of the newer modes have become more complicated in concept and sometimes manage. I still have troubles with Bilevel in management not concept. I get the concept I just have trouble setting it up and weaning from. This is probably because we don’t use it a lot.
We got out about an hour earlier than scheduled so that was nice. I was able to make a staff meeting at work.
