My first day of practicum was last Wednesday.  I arrived before my preceptor and another nurse was kind enough to log me into the computer system so that I could look up labs for the patient(s).  When my preceptor arrived, we took report on her 4 patients.

The first day is really orientation to the unit and stuff.  So really I did more observing and some helping, but didn’t give any meds or do any assessments. There were some interesting patients.  We had two patient s with identical pain levels but they dealt with it in entirely different ways.  One didn’t complain at all and the other did.

It was a really long day for me.  I got up at 0430 and didn’t get home until 2015.

My next two practicum days are Tuesday and Wednesday in the coming week.  After that I still don’t know.
